Wow! I had no idea I hadn’t done in-store reviews for J Crew since late September. There have been so many other retailers who have caught my eye this Fall it was nice to take a little break from J Crew. But, the break is over since I’m really liking several items from today’s roll-out.

~ Fringe Tank, Black, Small ~
The armholes looked big on the hanger so I grabbed a Small to try on. That is a size down from my normal Medium.

On the heels of my Tory Burch skirt reviews comes another wrap skirt from J Crew. There are several styles of this one but the Elephant print is the most adorable. The size 8 fit well to a little roomy but I’m sure a size down would raise the hemline and be tighter on the hips. Instead of fooling around with buttons or hooks in front of the skirt, there is a back-zip.

I really didn’t think much of this shirt on the hanger but thought it might be dressy enough for a small party or dinner. I actually liked it once I put it on. I’d probably wear this casually with jeans and my Merino V-Neck Cardigan in Navy.
~ Slouchy Wool Pant, Electric Red, size 6 ~
I usually wear a size 8 in bottoms but these seemed like the same style as the Drapey Drawstring Pant which I took a size 6 in. That was the right size as this is still a little roomy in front but a nice fit through the hip and thigh. I must say these were very comfortable on and not itchy at all. The wool-blend almost feels like a bonded wool. They are supposed to be cropped but you can see they are the perfect length for my 5’2″ frame. I also prefer these over the Drapey Wool Sweatpant because there is no elastic gathering at the ankles.

~ Origami Skirt in Metallic Matelassé, Silver Metallic, size 8 ~
This is the same fit as the Elephant Skirt above ad would be great for the Holidays. I have enough party skirts right now but would probably lean towards this in Black to wear a bright color on top.

This shirt is over-sized but not in the shoulders. It almost seems like they kept the section above the pockets the same as the older Perfect Shirts and Popovers and then added more material to look over-sized and long. I would stick with my normal size 8 in this but I really need a size 6 to slim the body a little. The beading seems sturdy and won’t easily fall off but I didn’t inspect it too closely. Of course, blackwatch plaid is great for Winter.

I know a lot of people are liking the beaded chevron shirts but I would wear this layered more than anything so no one would see the beading. Also, once you are tired of the beading, how hard is it to take them off without a bunch of pinholes left behind.

~ Wool Side-Zip Cable Sweater, Heather Dove, Small ~
Again, I know this is meant to be over-sized but I would need to size to an XS to really make it work. I tried it on because it looked cozy on the hanger, and it is, but I could do without the drop-shoulder seam and the all-the-way-to-the-armpit side zipper.
If you want to use the side-zip you’ll need to layer under this. This is merino wool though thicker than a Tippi sweater. I like the cable-knit and popcorn details but overall I would even look at this on sale.
I brought the Fringe Tank and Origami Skirt in Elephant Parade home with me. What are liking from this roll-out?

During last Monday’s 40% off Flash Sale I was able to get the Sophie Embroidered Loafers in the Wool Houndstooth pattern. I don’t have a brown-toned flat so these will fit right in to that missing space in my closet.

I ordered my normal size 7 and they are TTS. Since the front is shorter than normal loafers, they do show the tiniest bit of toe cleavage in the front, on the sides,
They are trimmed in Navy suede and are completely flat. The heel almost seems like it is for show. They are lined in leather and fairly comfortable, just from trying them on. They don’t feel like they will need much breaking in. The toe has a gold embroidered emblem that doesn’t clash with the pattern very much.

I’m always leery to purchase something on Final Sale but I am glad I was able to get these. Since we have a mostly mild Fall and early Winter, I should be able to get some good use out of these before I switch to boots daily. There is still enough room to add thin socks and be fairly comfortable.

Happy Shoes-day!

J Crew has a promo today only of 40% off Final Sale, with code SHOPFALL. Of course, I don’t need anything but below are my wants.

I am still really wanting the Silk Sleeveless Dress and I think the Antique Pewter is a nice change from black or navy. I’d probably go ahead and stick with the Small instead of chancing on the Petite Small. I have the Pleated Bib Top in Stripe and love it. I would love to get the Academic Green but both the size 8 and 8 Petite are sold out. Other colors are available. This shirt looks great under a blazer. With it now being cool in the morning and warm in the afternoons, this shirt is a great choice for me.

I use blazers frequently in the Fall and Winter. The Schoolboy Blazer in Houndstooth would be a nice addition in my closet. The Merino Double-Knit Long Cardigan was an unexpected like when I originally tried it on {here}. I’d love to get it in the Navy Forest or Burgundy Acorn.

I like both the Georgie Fabric Tassel Loafers in Dark Onyx and the Sophie Embroidered Loafers but if I had to choose I’d take the Georgie’s. I tried on the Suede in-store last weekend and found they ran a little snug. The 7 1/2 fit more comfortably than my normal 7. I have two different denim shirts, one of which is from the Factory and similar in style to the Selvedge Chambray Shirt. I think a Chambray shirt is a must-have for any closet. It dresses down a beautiful skirt and layers under any sweater very well.

What did you get from this quick sale?

Sorry for the delay. A little Vegas got in the way.

Since I’m always in denim I look in the sale section to try new styles. These Toothpick Jeans were on promo (as of Thursday) and I ordered them with the 40% off since they were not final sale. I was hoping I would get a great pair of Japanese Selvedge Denim that would break in well and be in my closet for years.

~ Toothpick Japanese Selvedge Jeans in Hulton Wash, size 30 ~

As soon as I pulled them over my calves I knew I would be returning them. I was afraid they wouldn’t fit or that I would rip them trying to take them off. Though there is some stretch in the denim, there isn’t as much as my Toothpicks in Miller Wash or my Factory Ankle Skinny Jeans
They were pretty tight across the thighs and calves and felt stiff when I had them on. I was walking around like Frankenstein’s Monster since I could barely bend anywhere. I would need at least a size 31 to feel a little more comfortable but then the waist would be baggy.

I also didn’t care too much for the wash on the front and back. It was a little too light for my taste. It seems like the reviews also complained of tightness in the thighs but some were able to get them to stretch and fit wonderfully during the day.

These were returned. There’s no way I the jeans would stretch enough in my thighs to be comfortable. But I did like the feel of the jean, they were a little weightier denim, though I could have done away with the whiskering in front. I have several different pairs of Toothpick jeans that fit me well so a one-off isn’t going to break my heart. Another pair will come along.

Have a Great Day!

I have been wanting to see this dress in person since I first saw the Style Guide Pin. When it arrived online it was during a 25% off promo. The dress in regular sizes was excluded from the promo but the Petite sizes were not excluded. Odd right? Even my VPS thought so. Several other 25% off promos have had the same exclusion.

This dress looked like a cool casual dress. Because of the promo, I ordered the 8 Petite, which had a 33 3/4 inch length. I saw that an measured myself and knew it would be borderline short. The regular length is 36 1/2 inches and the tall is 39 1/4 inches in length, all based on the size 6. That is the size I probably should have ordered in the regular length.

The Petite seems too short, even for my taste. I think it will do well on actual Petite ladies. It looks like it may be the same length as the Jules Dress in Italian Paisley, which I love.
I am a little uncomfortable in this dress. Oddly, I think it’s the length. I can’t raise my arms past my chest unless I want to expose myself. it’s the same way with the Jules in Italian Paisley but since the print seems dressier I carry myself differently. This dress seems so casual. I also can’t figure out what shoes would do well with this dress. The online image has flats and the Pin has high-top sneakers. I do think it looks better with the booties than it does the heels.
In the 8 Petite, it may also be just a little too snug in the chest, after looking at these photos. But I still like it. Every where else, the fit is good. The material feels nice and it’s lined through the body but not the arms. I think adding some leggings would change this to a tunic but what color. I think it would be difficult to match the dress color itself so I would need to pull the burgundy or navy from the collar or sleeves.
So what do you think of the Varsity Dress on me? Should I return it? What color leggings could I incorporate to go with it. Better with the booties or heels or some type of flats?
