J Crew Moonglow Paisley Silk Tee

I really want to try to make getting dressed easier. I have a really big walk-in closet and it’s currently stuffed with clothes I don’t wear. I have quite a few “save for a rainy day/cocktail party/fancy dinner/etc” items. I have been trying to purge/sell/donate anything I can. For me, I think silk tees, especially in the Spring will jazz up a pair of jeans or shorts.

Though not worn yet, I do have the Windowpane Silk Tee, finally settling on a size 8. I liked the print of the Moonglow Paisley Silk Tee so I ordered the same size. My thoughts were that it will go well with Navy, White and Black bottoms. I think it is cut a little wider than the Windowpane Tee but haven’t directly compared the two.

The print and color seems a little “old lady-ish” to me so a neutral bottom will probably be best. The arms fit fine but the body seems a little wide. I would have liked to have seen it a little less boxy.

I like the feel of this shirt but am still on the fence about it. I would like to try the shorts to see if I would like those better. I have way too many Linen and Cotton Graphic Tees so I’ll stay away from the Linen Tee.

Have you tried the Moonglow Paisley Silk Tee or the shorts? I’d love to hear any feedback about those.

Personally, I like this print much better on the shorts. It is a bit busy as a top.

Thanks Cate…I'm going to try the shorts. They may not work either but we'll see.

I bought both the shorts and the top and both were returned. With the top, it was the fit, too boxy. My normal size 8 fit in the shoulders, but not across the bust. I would have sized up but the 8 was excessively big from the bust down. Also, I couldn't get past the comment that someone said it looked like a Vera Bradley bag! The shorts I thought would definitely be a keeper, but they weren't. Loved the print on them, I bought my normal size 4. Fit everywhere but in the waist, which seemed to be about four inches too big. Sizing down would not have worked with my curvy bottom and there are no belt loops so adjusting the waist was not an option.

Julie – That's it! Vera Bradley. I am so taking this back now. I do want to try the shorts but I just couldn't put my finger on whey the shirt print bothered me just a little.

I also find the print a little "old ladyish", but then again, I have a hard time with prints so I am usually finding something to nitpick about. I think the neon bright colors will look dated in a silk top but shorts could be fun. JMHO. Thanks for sharing the IRL photos.

xoxo – I think you're right about the neon colors. I haven't seen the shorts IRL but I would think they might be a bit muted.

I agree that it's old ladyish. Looks like something from Talbot's in the 90s! It's sad, because the print looks really pretty online. Thanks for trying it and sharing with us!!

I bought this shirt and love it! I paired it with olive green skinny jeans and got a ton of compliments.

I bought this, too. It's sitting in my closet in the bag 🙁 I loved it online, but it felt like a really staid cut, to me. The cut bothered me more than the print–it felt like something I would have worn with a suit in the '90's. I've been trying to figure out how to make it work, but need to give up and return it. Thanks for the review! Hope the shorts work for you!

I tried the silk tee and it was just too boxy and unflattering. I ended up with the linen tee and truth be told, it just works better for my stay-at-home-mom life. Crewcuts did this print in an adorable cotton dress so my daughter got that. The print is busy- good for the very young or older set in my opinion–or it could have been a cute swimsuit cover up.

I saw the moonglow items in store today: didn't care for the tee, loved the silk top – thought the colors were much nicer in person than on my screen – and wasn't impressed by the dress. But the silk top is dancing around in my head. C'mon, promo!

I'd love for you to take us through your closet, and how you plan to organize things. I have a hard time getting dressed in the morning starring at a closet FULL of clothes…..but feel overwhelmed I guess. How do you organize your jewelry? Do you keep it out? In the JCrew jewelry bags ? I would love your ideas or anyone else's reading this.

I purchased the silk top, linen tee, and shorts. I sized down in the silk top to a 2 since my regular size 4 seemed like a whole size up, especially in the shoulders. I also tried a 0, which wasn't that much different width-wise in the shoulders or body, but it was about an inch shorter in length, so 2 it is. Tee was my normal size S. I can fit into a 4 in the shorts, but they are the 3-inch length, so I'm keeping the 6 around a little while as they sit around my hips. As for pairings, I like the Schoolboy Blazer in Heather Mineral, Martina Suede Wedges in Deep Riveria or Fresh Strawberry, and Cleo Suede Loafers in Deep Riviera or Burnished Coral. I haven't put these together yet, but the top may also coordinate with the Wool Café Capri or No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Baroque Blue if you want to go more wintry. I also like the Mixed Gems Double-Strand Bracelet. It's hidden in the online photo, but the bracelet has a coral stone that coordinates with the top. There is also an in-store only coordinating necklace and earrings. I've seen the necklace many times, but the earrings only twice.
