Today, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Tim Gunn. He was so genuine and friendly I wish our meeting could have been longer. My mind and thoughts are still scrambled but I do remember him saying “Your outfit is darling!” And I responded that it was all from Anthropologie! I was happy I was able to go with my girlfriend Catalina. It made the experience so much more fun.

Cata and I had a light lunch and then were able to find two seats together on one side of the runway. It rained off and on all day but we were lucky enough to only have it drizzle while we were waiting. It never rained through the show or the Q&A which was directly after the fashion show. Lucky Brand picked a few “regular” people to be models. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to go to the casting call due to a long work day.

After the Q&A it was time to get in line to meet Tim Gunn. If you made a purchase at Lucky Brand throughout the week over $100 you were able to wait in line and get a picture with Tim along with a signed copy of book Gunn’s Golden Rules: Life’s Little Lessons for Making it WorkAgain, unfortunately we didn’t realize A LOT of people got in line directly after the fashion show so we were way towards the end of the line. It turns out we were around the 2-hour wait part of the line. He was supposed to leave at 3:30 but there were still at least 100 people waiting so he said he was going to stay until he saw everyone.

We were also able to get a pack of his Holiday cards that Carol posted about here. We were one of the lucky ones to get a copy of his book. They did not realize the amount of people to show up so those towards the end were going to have their picture taken but be mailed their autographed copy of the book. When I met Tim we chatted briefly, he complimented my “darling” outfit, auto-graphed the book, snapped the pic, hugged and shook hands and we were done. It was so fast I’m surprised I remember it all.

Here are a few pics. I also saw Pam from Over 50 Feeling 40 but didn’t get to meet her. She was one of the Lucky ones to ask Tim a question.

Waiting for the show to start!

Tim Gunn does wear jeans! Lucky Brand jeans to be exact.

Isn’t he just dashing?

Afterwards I stopped by Anthropologie to show off my outfit. Hi girls!!!

Such an amazing day! Hope yours is just a great!

Here’s link to Pam’s post of her experience from the day.

Normally I pass on Anthropologie sales but something I really wanted from my wishlist went on sale along with two recent purchases. And the bonus was an additional 25% off.

You’ve seen me in the Lemon Liftoff Blouse by Girls from Savoy here. There was only one left in a size 10 when I went by Tuesday. I was able to get a price adjustment and the 25% off.  I am really surprised at the deep price reduction on this blouse, especially after seeing it on Glee last week, but I guess people don’t get the owls.

Havana Fresca Skirt by Maeve – I bought this last week in a Small and wore it Friday out to dinner with an older blouse by Bordeaux and my Lanvin Espadrilles. I love the red even though it looks more pink in the outfit pic below. This is very comfortable and just feels chic. I was able to get a PA and the additional 25% off on this one too.

Arced Crosshatch Blouse from JJ by Julie Haus – The pattern and flowiness of this blouse originally peaked my interest when I saw it a few weeks ago in the store. But because of the boxiness I wasn’t sure how to style it. Luckily Anthropologie had it layered under the Contoured Crewneck sweater and tucked into the High IQ Cords.

Whirligig Dress by Velvet – Before I left the sale room I scoped out anything I might have missed originally. I found the Whirligig Dress in Dark Orange. I missed this dress completely when it was regular price and originally noticed the Medium Pink which looks more like a Wine color. The Small fit well and I think this is going to be a great Fall transition dress. The Velvet brand has always been a favorite of mine.
So, because of the 2 PAs and the additional % off I only spent $23 on the two new purchases! I can’t wait to wear my new dress and blouse.
But first, I have to decide on what to wear to meet TIM GUNN this Saturday!!!

You know I’m not one to shy away from color. That goes for shoes as well. If I feel like I’m wearing something that’s not all that exciting I’ll add an interesting or colorful pair of heels or flats to finish the outfit. That is where the Cece Suede Ballet Flats come in. I have them in both the Sapphire and Wild Berry in a Size 7. They also come in Black, Dusty Cedar, Tropical Green, Aged Driftwood, Navy and Bright Flame.

Description from J Crew: Beautifully styled in sumptuous suede (from Italy, of course). Our designers deliberated over every detail to ensure our ballets are the most comfortable you’ll ever wear, adding more padding, removing the shank and finishing them with an arch-hugging wedge. We think they’ve nailed it. Elasticized topline. Cushioned insole. Man-made lining. Rubber sole.

You can see the color is really vivid, even without the flash from my camera.
Now, I cannot compare these to the older Cece’s as I don’t have a pair but I can tell you that these are comfortable flats. I reach for ballet flats most of the time during the Fall/Winter/Spring, especially when I have to run a quick errand. These two colors certainly jazz up a pair of jeans and a tee.
I will say the back of the shoe is higher than most of my other flats and they did rub enough to get a blister the first time I wore the Wild Berry.  I think I’ll be fine from now on but will carry some band-aids just in case I feel it happening again.

There are also several other Cece Ballet Flats styles:

  • Patent Bow – The Getaway Green is gorgeous!
  • Studded Leather – Even those these are in neutral colors, the studs give the shoe a little “oomph”.
  • Glitter Bow – I know the Glitter sandal was pretty popular this summer so how about a great flat option? Unfortunately I keep missing my size in the Warm Sienna (Size 7 anyone?)
  • Leather or Suede Studded – A little more tone down as only the toe is studded on these.
  • Patent Toe – Check out the Bright Bayberry if you aren’t a fan of a bright color.
  • Metallic Suede – The Metallic Sienna looks like a great neutral.
  • Tweed – If you like menswear, check out the Grey.
  • Leather and Tortoise – I like the tortoise toe on these. And they are also offered in Girls sizes.

Do you have the Cece Ballet Flat? What about the older Cece flat? I’m curious to know if there really is a difference between the two like the description is stating.
