J Crew April

I received an email last week that there were new arrivals on the website at J. Crew but nothing jumped out at me. Over the weekend, there was a 30% off promo and it was then that I found quite a few new arrivals to add to my wishlist. Items are always more appealing when they are on sale, right?

The very first thing to catch my eye was the Gemma Tortoise Flats. My store has them and I was able to quickly try them on. They run large so I would size down half a size to a 6 1/2. The material is PVC and there are three holes where the arch is, for air-flow so your feet won’t get too sweaty. They are just as just in person as they are online and at the top of my wishlist. I’ll probably get them when I return from my trip.

With the 30% off promo over the weekend, I ordered the Madras Shirtdress and the Le Capitaine Garment-Dyed Sweatshirt. The style of the shirtdress looks similar to the Soft Lame Shirtdress from last year so I ordered the same size, a 6. I would love to see the Madras in a popover like the Metallic Gingham or the solid. The season of the sweatshirt has almost come and gone for me but the Le Capitaine Sweatshirt looked too cute to pass up.

The Sunday Slim Short in Patchwork Madras is on my list to purchase. I am hoping my store has it when I make some returns today. I really like the look of the Gingham Pleated Mini Skirt but wish it was offered in the Pink, like the Campbell Blazer or Linen Pants. I was pleasantly surprised by the pink when I saw it in-store. It’s not a ballerina pink but a little darker and really pretty. It’s a pink would probably wear.

Did you make any purchases over the weekend with the 30% off? Some of these items are included in the current 25% off with SHOPSALE. The one item I did finally find in-store and on sale was the Tweed Jacket with Zippers that I tried on in January.

AB, it’s not just you! A bunch of JCAs were commenting over the weekend on how there were new arrivals to the website as of Fri/Sat that weren’t there before when the New Arrivals email came in that Tues or Wed last week. (I was saying that I’m a Polkaholic and most certainly would’ve noticed that Carrie Polka Dot immediately had it been released earlier!)

I didn’t even notice that Le Capitaine sweatshirt, very cute, I like it. I ended up ordering that linen Cargo shirtdress in the Blue Grotto shade (or whatever their Vivid blue is called. I can’t resist that shade, especially when the warmer weather hits.) Agree about the Gingham mini.

Countdown is on for your trip, how exciting!!!

I ordered the madras shirtdress to try too. I was interested in the madras shorts, but I wish they were a 5″ inseam. Madras feels very old J. Crew, I’m glad they’re working it back in a bit (but I hope they don’t go overboard). Let us know how the dress works out!

Don’t get me started-LOL. My love/hate relationship with J. Crew is seemingly never-ending these days: http://atypical60.com/2016/01/31/i-cover-the-crew-lets-look-at-the-february-j-crew-style-guide/

I do, however, love the Gemma flats. They ARE a comfortable shoe. And the point on the tip of this shoe is THE perfect point–not too rounded and not “court jester” style pointy. There is a bit of much-beloved toe cleavage. And the shoe just makes the foot look pretty.
The cons–The shoe isn’t the greatest construction. Next to my Repettos, they are downright cheaply made. The sole and heel are flimsy and this is not the shoe to wear in the rain. In fact, I miss the old J. Crew flats that were made in Italy some years ago. I have to be honest. I have a pair of adorable plaid J. Crew Factory flats that are constructed far better than the Gemmas.

But–if you rotate your shoes often and go easy on the wear of the Gemma, they should last a while. I purchased the black Gemma’s on sale and I just received the dusty pink–at $79. and change they were a good price–I used my birthday gift card.
Now excuse me, I need to check that madras number out. My youth is calling me!
