I must be honest and say that I was not a big fan of the Hacking Jacket when it first showed up on the website. The “longer, leaner silhouette” turned me into a non-fan. I paid no more attention to it…until today. I was finally able to check out the 2nd rollout of new arrivals at my local J Crew B&M. I really had no idea what to expect since there were so many new pretty things to look at online. I scheduled a time with my PS who put together some great outfits…again. Those pictures will be up soon.
The Charcoal was in my items to try on in the but I also saw the Grass in-store too. I asked my PS and she said my size (6) was already sold-out but once she saw the 6 in the Charcoal was a little snug, especially in the shoulders she went to check on the 8 in the Grass.
And she found it! The longer length is not as long as I expected and I do like the slimmer cut. The Grass color is really pretty and now I am intrigued to see the Midnight Ocean, Vibrant Flame and Heather Dark Grape.
Love the hacking jacket, it looks great on you! Can't wait to see the outfits your ps put together maybe it will help me with my purchases later this week.
There's been a lot of discussion around this jacket and I was very intrigued until I read at least 3 bloggers state that it was itchy. I can't do wool with the slightest bit of itch so it is a pass for me.
The fit looks great from the front but it's pulling on the vent at the back. Someone in the blogosphere mentioned that she tried several sizes and could not get the vent to lie flat on any of them, it always pulled open and she did not have much of a butt so it is likely due to the cut. Something to watch out for once you snip the vent threads. Just thought I'd pass that on in case you missed it.
The color is great! I have to admit, I didn't look at this at all since I live in the desert and my need for wool is pretty minimal. I have a few nice jackets in heavier fabrics so I won't be biting.
Do they still do free alterations at the B&Ms? I think the sleeves could be taken up a bit for you. I almost always have to have jacket sleeves hemmed. Like XOXO, I've read some comments that the back vent on this jacket doesn't lay flat so that's something to double check before you snip off the tags.
Hmmm… I like the jacket a lot. Wishing it had a more tailored look – like more fitted look, I would buy.
I like the jacket as well, but I don't think I could wear it if it was itchy.
So is this a size up piece. Was your regular size a half or full size too small? TIA
Thanks for the comments everyone. I didn't notice the itchiness but I was wearing a long-sleeved tee underneath. I'll have to look for that as well as the vent pulling in the back.
I have a dilemma though. I did not have a tweed jacket/blazer but I do have the Leaf Green Velvet Bella, as well as several other velvet blazers from JC. I have 30 days to decide if I really want to keep the Hacking Jacket since it is in the same color family as the Bella or return it. Like I said, I'm now intrigued to see the more vibrant colors they offer in this jacket.
And because we do not see an end to this ridiculously hot weather, I may not get to wear this until January or February.
Pixelant – The size 6 did look and feel to be more tailored on me. I should have pics up by the end of the weekend.
Wolfy – I found it to be small just in the shoulders. Everywhere else fit great, including the waist. That's usually wear most of my issues lie with jackets (and the JC Perfect Shirts. I always size to an 8 in those.) Since I'll be using this (if I keep it) layered over one or two items I really did need the size up for room in the shoulders. HTH!
I also liked my smaller size but the size larger was better in the shoulders (I had a thick t and the tippy sweater on underneath). The smaller size looks better imo – more fitted.
The vent stayed open in both sizes and I hated that.
I am on the fence about this jacket too, but it looks good on you!
I love the color for you. Good luck w/your decision. It's hard w/60 days and also guessing what Mother Nature might do.
Thanks Audrey. My problem usually lies with fit in the shoulders. I can't tell you how many times I've had to go to my tailor to adjust that part of FS/evilbay blazer. It's also the toughest to adjust, as Jcrew cuts pretty close.
I like this blazer in Purple, but can't justify buying it at full price. I currently have more Crew blazers than I care to count. I also found a nice previous season tweed crew blazer on the bay, so I got that covered.
Love your outfits! I am looking forward to see the new " try-ons!" What is the name of your store and PS, she seems Fabulous!
I have the grass one in an 8 as well. I find it quite tailored in fit, longer than the schoolboys ( am 5'8"). The wool is not a soft fluid tweed, more smooth with body, and i can see how some would find this a bit itchy if it were next to the skin. With the lining and the fact it would usually be worn over a sweater or T, I think it will be fine. Here in the North, I hope I can wear it in September /October. I feel so bad for all of you where it has been over 100 for weeks! I would not survive.
