Though these aren’t included in the current THURSDAY promo, I did want to share my try-ons in case you are considering any of them.

~ Downtown Field Jacket, Canvas, Small ~

This just fit in the Small. I would size to a Medium since I will wear layers underneath this. I really like this classic canvas color. It will go with everything. I have the Deep Burgundy color and the Factory version in Navy so I’m good on this jacket.

~ Embroidered Gauze Eyelet Mini, Navy, Small ~

I consider this a beach or pool skirt. It’s short and super casual. Maybe I’d run to the grocery store in it but I wouldn’t consider it a date night or dinner skirt unless it was a really casual outdoor place. I have last year’s version of this in white. The small still felt big but probably due to the elastic waist.

~ Easy Linen Midi Skirt with Ties, Vintage Kelly, size 6 ~

This skirt caught my eye in-store in both the vintage kelly and lapis color. I was drawn to it being linen and lined in cotton. A great combination to keep you cool in Summer. The skirt has a side zip and then you tie three separate sets of string ties. I would have preferred this skirt without the ties but it’s still cute. This skirt also runs big as the size 6 fit very well. I am a size 8 in skirts 90% of the time, so this one is an exception. I really liked it and would have considered it had there been petite sizing.

Today’s promo at J. Crew is 40% off select styles with code THURSDAY.

~ Jackie Cardigan in Embroidered Palm, Black Ivory, Large~
~ Faux Leather Scalloped Tank, Undyed Navy, Medium ~
~ Rory Pant, Fern, size 8 ~

I really liked this Jackie Cardigan. I was finding that the Jackie cardigans were running small on me in my normal size Medium so I tried on a Large. It’s big in the large so I would stick to my normal Medium. The scalloped tank is really cute IRL with the cardigan. The Medium was fine on me so it’s TTS. I would like the cardigan for Fall so if it makes it to sale I’ll probably get it. It’s just too hot for anything other than linen and tanks right now.

~ Eyelet Ruffle-Hem Top, White, size 8 ~

I really wanted to like this eyelet top but found it to fit oddly. The sleeves are cut in a bit but not quite racerback or halter-style. The waistline hits at the natural waist. It felt cropped on me though I knew it wasn’t. I’m on the fence with this one. I think I need to size to a 10 Petite and maybe try the Black instead. I like the eyelet and the ruffle-hem doesn’t add any fullness or weight. This is included in today’s promo.

~ Linen Tank Top with Fringe, Bold Red, size 8 / 6 ~

The first pic is of the size 8 in this linen tank top. The straps are really loose, as is the whole tank itself.

Though still slightly loose in the straps, sizing down to a 6 is a much better fit. There are bra-keeps so you can ensure the straps don’t fall off your shoulder. The Bold Red is bright and beautiful IRL . I ended up getting this in all four colors (also Navy, White, Sundrenched Pool) since it’s easy to wear (minus the wrinkles), fits, and Husband like it.

~ Ruffle-Sleeve Top, Ratti Into the Wild, size 6 / 8 ~

The fit in both of these sizes was just fine, with the size 8 being just a little looser throughout. I was a little bothered by the back though. I kept thinking I had the tag twisted or something. When I finally saw it, the neckline in the back has pleating. Once I knew what it was I wasn’t annoyed by it as much but it still felt weird on me. I liked the print but ended up getting the off-the-shoulder dress instead.

~ size 8 ~

~ Ruffle Popover Shirt in Melon Plaid, size 8 ~

I liked the colors on this popover shirt online and it didn’t disappoint IRL. It’s lightweight and looks cute tucked in and with the sleeves rolled. The size 8 is my normal button-down shirt size and fits just fine. I passed on this as I can’t really see myself wearing it this Summer and holding it until next Spring, making it not a wise purchase.

I am going to take a guess and say Friday’s promo will be the staggered promo or “buy more/save more” and that most everything will be included. They did that during the last 5-day promo. We shall see tomorrow.

Are you shopping the Thursday sale? Though there wasn’t much included in the 50% off Wednesday promo, I think it was one of the better ones.

Today’s promo at J.Crew is 50% off Vacation Styles with code WEDNESDAY. All the shorts below are included in today’s promo.

~ Gingham Cotton Shorts, size 8 ~

I found a pair of gingham shorts by Vineyard Vines at a resale shop last year. Otherwise, these comfy gingham shorts would have come home with me. The size 8 is a good fits, so TTS. The 4-inch inseam gives a little more coverage than the pair I have. I like these much better than the Linen Gingham Shorts from a few months ago. At 50% off, these are perfect for planning your July 4th outfit.

~ Embroidered Short in Gauzy Cotton, White Gunmetal, Small & Medium ~

I have last year’s version in the diamond print, in Navy. These are the same but a different pattern. Pineapples this time. I like the White version more this year than last year’s. The Small was a nice fit but I like the roominess of the Medium. I haven’t had any issues with machine-washing my navy version.

~ Bermuda Short in Heavy Linen, White & Vintage Kelly, size 8 ~

Both Bermuda shorts in Heavy Linen and Cuffed Linen are my two favorite Summer items from J.Crew. I have been searching over the years for varying colored linen shorts, other than flax, to no avail. Finally, J. Crew has completed my search. The linen on these are a heavier weight than the Cuffed Linen Shorts. The rise is also higher at 12 inches with the waistband sitting just above my normal waistline. I bought both colors available online. I have a pair of white already but like the flat front of this version. And the Vintage Kelly is gorgeous IRL. If you can get your size, especially at 50% off today, then do it.

Other items in today’s promo include the following.

Are you shopping today’s WEDNESDAY promo?

Today’s promo at J Crew is TUESDAY and you can take 40% off select styles as well as sale items. Unfortunately, none of the pants below are included in this promo. Cashmere sweaters are included (huh?!) and women’s swim is excluded but not men’s/girls/boys. This promo makes no sense except that the off-the-shoulder Ratti Dress is included along with the Chambray shirtdress.

~ Rory Pant, Navy, size 6 ~
~ Rory Pant, Fern, size 8 ~

I mentioned in Monday’s post how I did not like these pants. They bunch just below the waist, in the back. You can see it somewhat in the image below and it’s very noticeable in the size 8 in Fern. These are  pull-on pant with a little give in the waist. The tie at the waist is not removable and would probably look best tied at the side. The size 8 was still decently cropped on me, with an inseam at 20-inches, but I wasn’t a fan of how the wide-leg draped. The material is a cotton poplin and machine washable.

~ Cropped Wide-Leg Pant in Heavy Linen, French Blue, size 8 ~

I was excited to try these pants as the color looked gorgeous online and a heavier weight linen would be good for work. They also went with my new #shinyponies. The size 8 was a great fit. The front has pleats and the back is elastic. They were full-length on me and I like how the wide-leg draped. They were lined in cotton in the same color as the pant. The french blue color took on a shade of purple IRL. Of course, they got super wrinkled but they are linen. Though I really liked them, I ended up returning these as I didn’t see myself wearing them as much as linen shorts.

~ Gazebo Pant, White, size 8 ~

I’ve tried these on in the 8 & 8 Petite in navy and vintage kelly. I really wanted these in white and my store finally received another shipment with the size 8. These are a little longer than I want them to be but they fit well. The white is lined but still seems a little see-through. I ended up buying these in the size 8 since the Petite size has been sold out for a while in this color.

The Rory Pants were a dud but the Linen Pants were a hit. The Gazebo Pant should be a permanent staple for J. Crew. I hope this comes out in the Fall/Winter in wool

Sorry for the delay. The work days are really stressful and long right now and I can’t find the energy to do anything but chill in the pool. But I did want to share some of my embroidered finds with you.

~ Madewell Embroidered Top, Bright Ivory, Small ~

This looked like it ran a big large on the rack so I grabbed a Small to try on. It was a decent fit though I still don’t like how it looks on the side of the chest. It’s not as gathered at the chest as the Alma Peasant Blouse was which caused the chest to run tight. I like that this Embroidered Top has detail at the shoulders and sleeves. It makes the top a little more visually interesting.

~ Madewell Embroidered Cotton Shift Dress, size 6

Though I didn’t buy it, I really liked this dress. The sleeveless is nice for Summer. The length works for me as well. The size 6 fit really well. This dress looked quite large on the hanger so I recommend sizing down one. The front is embroidered along with selective spots all over the dress. The sleeves and hemline also have a little embroidered detail. It also has pockets! There’s a 25% off select dresses promo at Madewell right now, code UNIFORM, but this dress is excluded.

~ Joie Quixota Embroidered Blouson Dress, Medium ~

This is a cute little embroidered peasant dress by a brand I’ve never tried, Joie. I liked the print and style of this dress but I didn’t like the neckline of it. I wish it had been more v-neck, like the Madewell dress above. The Medium fit well to just a little big. I pulled down the waist a bit because this was short when I had it pulled up a little to give it that blouson feel.

Joie_QuixotaDress

~ Joie Vork Cotton Blouson Dress, Medium ~

Another blouson dress from Joie, though this one is not embroidered. You can see how the neckline looks much better compared to the Quixota Dress above. I adjust the waist on this one to make the dress more blouson-style and you can see how short it can get. The Medium fit big compared to the dress above. I think I’d need to size to a Small but then I’d have to make this a tunic and wear leggings or skinny jeans on bottom.

Joie_BlackPrintMiniDress

~ Alice & Olivia Jolene Dress, size 6 ~

Of course I would love this dress…it’s $400. I really wanted to try it on and the size 6 just fit. The arms are tight and the chest is slightly pulling. I’d want a size 8 for a better fit all over. I’d also want a sale price for this dress. I love the drop waist, peasant-style and colorful embroidery.

Joie-EmbroideredPeasantDress

Although, apparently I couldn’t find any other embroidered tops to try on other than the Madewell Top. Sorry about that! Here’s pretty Collection top from J Crew and a familiar looking embroidered shorts, this time in pineapple embroidery. Johnny Was is a great brand for embroidered tunics and dresses. There are so many options for embroidered dresses and tops out there. You have a choice between color, thread color, shape, style, low or high end. The list is endless.
