J Crew Spring 2014: Scallop Crepe Dress, No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Cotton Twill, Salon Mini in Stripe

I went in to J Crew to make a few returns and ended up in the fitting room with some new items. Story of my life…

First up is the Scallop Crepe Dress, size 8 in Bright Persimmon. Quite the V-Neck there. I’d definitely want to try a Petite 8 in this dress. I love the scallop detail at the neckline and this color is gorgeous. Overall, if I needed a work dress (I’d add a cami underneath) I’d try the 8P. But it’s a pass for me.

The Bright Jade in the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Cotton Twill is a beautiful color. My normal size 6 fit well. I don’t have a need for pencil skirts and have been passing on all the solid colors of the last year, as pretty as some of those are. New “shaping seams” were added to the sides and back. I know it will probably accentuate some assets which will bother some but I didn’t mind them.

The Salon Mini in Stripe is a pretty ivory & gray linen blend skirt. I see pairing it with neutrals like the Linen Perfect Shirt in White and Tybee Metallic Sandals. This is the size 8 and it ran a little big. I usually get the 8 in the minis but chose the size 6 as it was a better fit overall.

And the size 6, which I bought but am going to return. The 8 was too big and the lining of the size 6 is too tight. The skirt itself is not though. And though I like the Ivory and Gray together I can recreate that with the Fluted Skirt in Ivory and Scalloped Lace Tee in Gray from the Factory.
I’m curious if you’ve tried the Scallop Crepe Dress or the No. 2 Pencil Skirt and what you thought of it.

A work dress? That's a glorious dress that will garner you much attention from hubs. My husband passed by and said," Damn she looks good in that dress. We need to go visit her."

Hawt, hawt, hawt!!! Wolf whistle + the bulging eyes & old school car honk. I saw that dress yesterday and it caught my eye. You have to get it. That color. Black. Something.

I like that stripe skirt, but I'm realizing the mix of bold + super thin stripes don't work that well for me. Will probably try it on anyway to review. Thanks for all of the fit info!

Gigi – Love love your comment! I totally see that cartoon in my head and will forever associate it with you now. HAHA! I have this color and the Black and Navy on my wishlist so "come on sale…no whammies". I do think the 8 Petite will fit a little better. Otherwise I'll need to alter at the shoulders a little.

Love the striped skirt. It doesn't look mini on you. What did you think of the length?
The dress looks fabulous on you, love the color and the scallop detail!

Maryeb – I like the length of the skirt and have no qualms on wearing mini skirts. I try to stay in the 17-18 inch range. Thanks!

Ohy gosh, that dress looks stunning on you. Forget the mini skirts. They look nice, but I would put the money towards this spectacular dress. It's rare for JC to hit it out of the ballpark nowadays. This dress is amazing and it fits your body wonderfully. It makes me think of L'Wren Scott or Victoria Beckham dresses. I WANT this dress.
