New Year’s Outfit Quandry

We’ve been invited to a New Year’s Eve party and the dress requested is “Black and White”. You might as well have told me to wear a potato sack. I know it’s classy and can be chic but for someone who likes color and who already had her outfit picked out I am in a bit of a dilemma.

Here’s what I’ve put together on my Stylebook app of items I already own. I have some dressy wool black J Crew shorts but Husband nixed those so pants it is.

1) J Crew Schoolboy Blazer in Black, J Crew Stretch Perfect Shirt, Talbots Satin Pants, Sloane Velvet Crisscross Pumps, Grande Crystal Drops Necklace

2) J Crew Schoolboy Blazer in Black, J Crew Tipped Silk Tee in Windowpane, Talbots Satin Pants, Sloane Velvet Crisscross Pumps

3) J Crew Sequin Shawl Collar Sweater, J Crew Ruffled Rhinestone Top, Talbots Satin Pants, Sloane Velvet Crisscross Pumps

4) J Crew Schoolboy Blazer in Black, Kate Spade Shannon Top, Talbots Satin Pants, Sloane Velvet Crisscross Pumps

So I need your help. Which outfit should I wear? I haven’t put any of these on together so the Schoolboy Blazer may not work with the Satin Pants or the Satin Pants not go with the Sloane Velvet Pumps.
Do you have any other ideas for Black and White outfits? I have the Scalloped Dress in Black and the Fluted Skirt in Double Crepe in Black but would definitely wear tights with either of them. Of course, my original outfit was built around the Gold Stripe Mini Skirt

Not sure why you can not wear the skirt…looks like it has black and white in it. Pair with a black top and I'd say you would be on the money for the theme. Otherwise, I think look 1 and 2 are perfectly fine, they are too docile for New Years Eve. I do like 3 the best. Look 4 looks black and silver on the screen…cute top.

    Just to make a statement of who you are…I would pop a color somewhere…either red shoes or a red scarf…it is a party…a celebration…go B & W with a touch of Audrey!

Would the Ruffled Rhinestone Top look right under the Black Schoolboy blazer, as another alternative? I agree with Blue Booby about the skirt. The gold is practically a neutral and it has black and white. I think you'll find that people don't adhere strictly to only black and white.

I'd rule out number 1 IMO. I think the white button down and the blazer looks too business-y even w/the dressier fabrics and shoes. I'm leaning toward #2 and #4. And I like the idea of a skirt instead and/or a dash of color thrown in somewhere. Have fun!

It's NY so you've got to have some sparkle, my vote is for #3! Do you have earrings or a bracelet with color so you don't have to be completely black/white?

#3 for sure! It's festive and so pretty!

I really like 2 and 3. I agree with Jruby about #1 being too businessy. I'd take the jacket from 3 and put it with four. If you can wear silver, why not the gold and white striped skirt?

Love 3. Agree with fshnonmymind that you need some sparkle. I have the Kate Spade top in 4 also, and love it; that would look good too, but maybe with a different topper? I feel like the blazer is too serious for NYE…

Thanks ladies! I'm going to play around with #3 a bit and try it with the skirt. I would roll the sleeves on the blazer too. You all have been a HUGE help!

My favorite was #3. I hope you wore that or something similar 🙂
