The Limited Spring 2011 Reviews

I used to shop The Limited and Express quite a bit in my late 20s. They were great for work pieces for someone on a budget, especially when they had their sales. I stopped by The Limited last week because I saw a lace skirt that interested me. I find that their pieces have always run big and am usually a Small or 6. I stuck with that when trying on clothes this time.
Please forgive the lighting. I tried to get the best shot I could without it being too bright.
Drawstring Butterfly Bateau Sweater – Size S, $49.90, Cotton – I am a fan of butterfly and kimono sleeves. This is a cute sweater but you will have to wear a tank underneath since there is no material or panel on the sides of the sweater.

Dot Pattern Top – Size S, $44.90, Polyester Satin – This is from their Outback Red line. The small was a nice fit and the pattern makes you look slimming, IMO. I tried on the Medium as well, which fit a lot looser than the Small.

Striped Cowl Sweater – Size S, $39.90, Cotton Blend – This is very soft and lightweight and looks so mod to me. I’m not sure if it’s the size of the stripes or that the mirror might be tricking me but I look skinny! haha

Stripe Pattern Top – Size S, $46.90, Polyester – I thought it was silk until I saw the tag. I love the nautical stripes and the ruched detail at the neckline. The Medium was a lot wider and longer, at least 1-2 inches.

Asymmetrical Tiered Top – Size M, $39.90, Modal Jersey, Opal Pink, also comes in Lilac Purple and Taupe – I actually liked this before I tried it on. It reminds me of an Ann Taylor shirt from the Fall.

Elaborate Ruffle Halter Top – Size M, $44.90, Polyester – I love that the shirt already mixes patterns for you. Just add a solid bottom and you’re ready to go. I don’t like the elastic at the bottom of the shirt. The Small would have been snug in the chest but probably a better fit through the body.

Asymmetrical Ruffle Shoulder Sweater – Size M, $49.90, Cotton, Fuschia, also comes in Orange and Dusty Pink – Ummm…I got nothing. I thinks it’s the ruffle.

Ruffle 2-in-1 Dress – Size 6, $98, Polyester, I’ll call this Peach and Neutral/Tan. It also comes in Smog Gray (top) and Navy (skirt). – I would need to size up in this. The top portion fit fine but the pencil skirt is tight and I struggled to get it over them hips I have. There is no way to step in to the dress because it has a side-zip

Fixed Wrap Shirtdress – Size 6, $89.90 $53.94, Cotton Spandex, Clover Green – I would size up to an 8 in this to feel a little more comfortable. I like that the sleeves have an adjustable button closure.

Printed Ruffle Top – Size S, $44.90, Polyester Spandex Stretch – Another elastic band around the hem but I like the print. I could have it tailored to shorten the hem which would remove the elastic…if it wasn’t Poly.
Lace Pencil Skirt – Size 6, $69.90, Cotton Nylon Blend, Modern Black – I am so happy with this skirt. The fit is amazing. I have never owned anything that was lace because I associated it with old and frumpy. Not in this skirt and for the price I couldn’t pass it up. You know my favorite retailer would have this marked up to over $200.

Cool Bomber Jacket – Size M, $128, Faux Leather/Polyurethane, Natural – Buttery soft faux leather biker jacket…this is lovely. Zipper detail above the chest and zippers at the sleeves.

Pleated Full 50s Skirt – Size 6, $59.90, Cotton Spandex – This is so very Mad Men and very classic. I wish they had it in white or khaki or even navy. Loved it!

Rosette Mesh Tee – Size S, $39.90, Smog Grey, Also comes in Marine Blue (below) and Sailer Blue, which looked Black to me. – Reminds me of the JC Rosette Tee in Navy. This is a sheer tee with the Rosette’s only in the front. This will require a tank (I have a matching grey one on) or some other shirt underneath it.

Rosette Mesh Tee – Size M, Marine Blue – Matching tank underneath

I hope you enjoyed these reviews.

    Hello there!

Just wanted to say "thanks" for this post – I love looking through the Limited, and plan to do more shopping there in the future – it's very helpful to see you modeling these pieces, and not just the mannequins!

That Assymetrical Stripe top is so unique – it would be fantastic paired with a bright pop of color!

I received a black lace pencil skirt ofr Christmas from NY andCo., and it's VERY similiar to the one you've purchased. Care to share ideas of how to style it?

I was thinking of wearing the Asymmetrical Stripe Top with my Lolli Pants from J Crew (pink).

As for the lace pencil skirt I was thinking of dressing it down with a denim shirt and flats, possibly my new oxfords ballet flats from JC. I have plenty of silk camis and cardigans I could also pair with it.

The Limited always has 2 or 3 very cool pieces. It's too bad they rely on poly and don't offer other fabrics or blends. The full skirt is cute. I liked both stripe tops and even the rosette top that we've seen before. Really cute. Yes, you look ultra thin in the 1st top. 🙂
