Shop Dresses Meet Our Moms

I just recently found photos of my mom and she had great style when she was younger. She has a more classic style now wearing slacks, button-downs, cardigans, etc. Here are two of my favorites (and she’s also with my dad).
I think they had just gotten engaged. I love her dress with the long scarf.
I’ve searched ebay for something similar but haven’t been lucky yet.
Here she is visiting my dad. You can’t see her shoes but they were white patent leather.
Her tights are yellow to match her outfit.
When I was in high school I was lucky enough to wear two of her dresses. One was yellow tulle that I wore to prom and the other was a white strapless dress (tulle again). We added a green satin sash and green satin around the top of the dress to give it a little color. (I’m still looking for the photos.)
Was your mom a style icon? Have you found any pictures that are your favorites, style wise?

How good looking are your parents?
My mum is still my style icon, even at 86. She puts her rollers in every morning and is fully made up and sporting her pearls by 8.00am each day. When I was younger I used to ask her who she as doing that for and she always said" For myself first of all and then those who have to look at me"

I am a frequent reader and not so frequent commenter…..but yes, my Mom is the ultimate style icon for me. At 75 she is the cutest thing ever and has so much style. She wears wonderful clothes and huge earrings (that she has made in Santa Fe by her favorite artists) and huge rings and bracelets. Her hair is pure white and beautiful but she loves wearing hats, too. When we are out together, SHE always gets compliments on her outfits and look. By contrast, I dress much more conservatively in my J Crew and Gap stuff and much smaller jewelry! But, we love to shop together!

I hate to say, my Mom is not a style icon. I don't know where my love of clothes comes from! The most stylish thing I remember her wearing were shift dresses in the 60's. She also like to wear wigs! Many, many of the photos of the family back then show her in different hairdos all the time, thanks to her collection of wigs. Weird, I know but she is still my Mom and she tries much harder now!

Tabitha – Thanks! When I found old pics of my mom I was shocked she wore all those minis. And then sad she didn't keep any of them.

I think it's great that your mom still makes sure she looks good.

txmom – I can see your mom now and I've never met her. She sounds fabulous. I can't do big earrings but I love seeing them on people. Especially those that make statements and are unique, like your mom's seem to be.

Kathy – I still love shift dresses. I would have loved to have grown up with that fashion in the 60s. Does your mom still wear wigs? Do you think Seashell would call you her Style Icon now or in 15-20 years?

Oh, I love the shift dress, but my Mom doesn't wear them anymore. Seashell laughed when I asked her if Grammy was a style icon. We do love her, but her favorite places are Chicos, Coldwater Creek, mostly places that Seashell has banned me from ever entering! I will know I am really getting old the day Seashell gets me a gift certificate from Chicos or Talbots!!!

No, Mom stopped wearing wigs a long time ago. I think it was for the easy care, but she used to set and style the wig instead of her own hair! I never got the whole wig thing.

I love those pics. I saw that UO promo and wish I had easy access to my mom's photo albums. Platforms! She was very stylish, but didn't keep up, unfortunately.

My mom was a total style icon. She taught me by example that style was a right, not a privilege! (:
